Sitting outside their home in Dakshinpuri, Anil’s wife Angelina Lovely cannot believe that her husband, who had been celebrating his daughter’s 12th birthday just a day ago, is gone.

“We were celebrating our daughter’s 12th birthday on Monday and on Tuesday we are mourning my husband’s death,” Ms. Lovely said, holding her two-year-old son while comforting her six-year-old daughter.

Narrating what happened inside the police station, Ms. Lovely said she had repeatedly asked the police officers to not keep her husband and accused Vishal in the same room because he was allegedly threatening them.

‘Called me at 3 a.m.’

“I was sitting with my husband and Vishal was sitting opposite us, on the ground floor of the police station. He was abusing us and making lewd gestures. When the police took them to the first floor, I told the officers to not keep them in the same room,” she said, adding: “They obviously didn’t heed my words”.

Ms. Lovely, remembering her last conversation with her husband, said he had asked her to take him home as he was hungry.

“Around 3 a.m., he called me on my phone from that room. He told me he wants to go home as he was hungry. Only a few minutes later, a police officer came running saying he had been stabbed,” she said.

Ms. Lovely alleged that Vishal had quarrelled with them before, but they let it go as he was a neighbour.
