"It was (a) very hard workout," Upton told the Associated Press after the session. "I knew it was going to be hard. The Marines are very tough."

Simultaneously, Upton also promoted “Patriot Ruck,” an inaugural event which is set to take place in downtown Detroit on Saturday, September 9. That event will be hosted by Verlander’s charity, Wins For Warriors, which aims to support service members and their families. And though Verlander will actually be around 230 miles northeast, in Toronto, playing a meaningless September game between two bad teams on that particular Saturday, the event will still go on as planned.
It will also be setup like a standard walk-a-thon, except with the added twist that participants are encouraged to bring rucksacks in an effort to mimic military training and missions. While nobody is expecting those taking part in the three-to-six-mile-long exercise to walk around with standard rucks carrying between 75 and 100 pounds, nobody is stopping you from rising to the challenge, either.
On Tuesday, in promotion of both of those events, Upton was captured doing some squats, some sprints, and also carrying around one of those rucks. So too was Verlander, but if you weren’t paying attention to him, no one would blame you.
