A two-day annual meeting of RSS-affiliated bodies will be held here beginning Saturday to take stock of their functioning, especially that of the BJP State unit that has been mired in multiple controversies.
RSS joint secretary Krishna Gopal and a BJP central observer will review the disciplinary action taken against those involved in recent allegations. BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan, State general secretaries, O. Rajagopal, MLA, and former presidents V. Muraleedharan and P.K. Krishnadas will take part in the meeting.
Based on the directives of the Central leadership, disciplinary action had been taken against many of the leaders. Cooperative cell convener R.S. Vinod has been stripped of the primary membership of the party over the medical college affiliation scam. State secretary V.V. Rajesh and IT Cell convener Jyotish Kumar have been removed from all responsibilities based on the allegations that they had leaked information to the media.
The BJP is facing a series of ignominies from district and State leaders involved in the creation of fake receipts during the BJP National Council held in Kozhikode last year and zonal secretary M.P. Rajan charged with duping a party worker on the promise of a job in the Army.
Party sources said that punitive measures would be taken against several leaders based on the complaints in the coming days. However, many senior leaders feel that the disciplinary actions are only a foolish attempt at face-saving.
Many senior leaders have expressed unhappiness over the “sectarian attitude' of BJP organisational joint general secretary B.L. Santosh, State organisational secretary M. Ganesh and joint secretary K. Subash in the State unit.
Neither the BJP State president nor the RSS prantha karyavahak P. Gopalankutty could rein in factionalism in the party. Some leaders had been made scapegoats ahead of the national president Amit Shah’s State-wide Janraksha Yatra next month, sources said.
