Chandigarh: Ahead of the verdict in a rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Punjab Director General of Police (law and order), in an alert to all Deputy Inspector Generals, Inspector Generals and Senior Superintendents of Police, warned that Dera followers are collecting petrol, diesel, sharp-edged weapons and stones.

Confirming this, additional chief secretary (home) Ram Niwas said Section 144 had been imposed in all districts of Haryana and carrying of sticks or weapons had been prohibited at places of congregation of dera followers.

He urged the dera followers not to do anything that would stain the image of the sect. "Action will be taken against those who tried to disturb the law and order situation in the state," Niwas said.

Security forces have been pressed into service in border areas and the Centre has already been requested to provide 115 companies of paramilitary forces to maintain law and order situation in the state.

"We have adequate police force. Police nakas are being laid where all vehicles would be checked. State borders have been sealed and inter-state and inter-district activities of vehicles are being closely monitored," Niwas said, adding that duty magistrates had been deployed at all locations.

"There is need to deploy additional duty magistrates in some districts sanction list for which is being released. Arrangement of cranes, ambulances and fire brigades has been made at several locations. The officials concerned have been directed to take necessary steps to deal with any kind of situation," he added.

Meanwhile, Sirsa deputy commissioner Prabhjot Singh exhorted the representatives of panchayati raj institutions (PRIs) to give information about any anti-social element trying to damage the social fabric and public property on his mobile number.

Prabhjot, who was addressing sarpanchs and panchs of 338 villages of the district on Tuesday, said, "A sarpanch is the head of a village and it is his responsibility to ensure security of his village as well government and private property."

The official asked them to keep a vigil in their respective areas.
