Tiwari accuses CM of ‘fooling employees, breaking promises’

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of “fooling every section” of personnel engaged directly or indirectly by it, be it guest teachers, Anganwadi workers or Delhi Transport Corporation employees.

Bawana by-poll

At a press conference on the eve of the Bawana Assembly constituency by-poll, Mr. Tiwari and senior BJP leader Arvinder Singh questioned Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s “promises of regularisation and betterment of services” made to guest teachers and Anganwadi workers before the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections.

The Delhi BJP president also charged the Kejriwal government of making “piecemeal announcements” for Anganwadi workers even as the model code of conduct for the Bawana by-poll restricted these.

“Whatever announcements have been made for the small increase of wages of Anganwadi workers are politically motivated to influence those residing or working in Bawana. In truth, the government knows that even the increased wages are much lower than those paid to contractual employees by the government itself,” he further alleged.

Similarly, he further said, the Kejriwal government allowed the recruitment of 7,000 new teachers through the Staff Selection Board but made no provisions for regularisation of guest teachers.

‘Excuses made’

“Why did the Kejriwal government not bring about a resolution in the Assembly to regularise guest teachers? The Chief Minister used the same Assembly precincts to discuss issues related to other States,” Mr. Tiwari alleged.

“It was only when the BJP raised the matter that the government started presenting excuses,” Mr. Tiwari further said, demanding that all contractual employees working in different Delhi government departments be regularised.
