Rapper Common has come on board Amandla Stenberg-starrer "The Hate U Give", an adaptation of the Black Lives Matter YA novel of the same name.
George Tillman Jr is helming the big-screen adaptation of Angela Thomas' debut novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, also starring Russell Hornsby, Regina Hall and Algee Smith, is expected to go on floors next month in Atlanta.
The story follows a 16-year-old girl named Starr, who grew up in a slum, witnesses a police officer shoot her best friend. She is torn between her two very different worlds as she tries to speak her truth.
