VTU students to boycott classes on September 1

more-in

Thousands of engineering students from colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) have decided to boycott classes on September 1 to push the university to consider their demands.

This decision was taken by the VTU students’ struggle committee and the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) who had a meeting on Tuesday. Their main demand includes removal of the concept of ‘critical year’ and the ‘year back’ system for this academic year as many students were forced to write over 16 examinations in a span of three months. This was because the university had delayed the re-evaluation results of the odd semester examinations.

Ravinandan B.B., vice-president, AIDSO, said that engineering students from across the State will boycott classes and hit the streets to stage protests across the State.

This week, the students had a meeting with Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi and VTU V-C Karisiddappa.
