Mumbai: The Amboli police on Monday arrested a 27-year-old history-sheeter after he was allegedly found to be in possession of mephedrone, known as MD or meow meow, worth ₹20 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Nadeem Nasir Sheikh alias Imran, a resident of Gaondevi Dongar in Andheri (west). The police have seized one kilogram of MD from him and are likely to seize more from his accomplices.
Trap outside City Mall
Sheikh was arrested after the police received a tip-off and laid a trap near a bus stop outside City Mall in Andheri, where Sheikh was allegedly going to deliver the contraband. After a long wait, Sheikh reached the spot and was intercepted and searched.
The Amboli police said that Sheikh is a drug peddler and has been caught earlier by the D N Nagar police and the Ghatkopar Unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell. He is suspected to be one of the bigger suppliers of MD to struggling models staying in Oshiwara and is in touch with Bollywood figures as well.
Sheikh was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody for four days.
Paramjeet Singh Dahiya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone IX, said, “The Commissioner of Police has asked us to take strict action against MD peddlers in the city. Keeping this in mind, I have alerted all my officers, as a result of which we got the tip-off about Sheikh and nabbed him.” Mephedrone was included under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in 2015 after it became a menace in the city.
