A centre providing women affected by violence with an array of services, from skill development to psychological assistance, under one roof is all set to start functioning in Rajouri from next month.

The universal centre for women (UCW) will be one-stop centre to serve women affected by violence, in private or at public places, within family, community or at work place.

"Apart from providing a library, skill development centre, gymnasium, grievance redressal, and counselling cells, the centre would also deal with issues related to physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, and economic abuse," District Development Commissioner Rajouri Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said.

"The centre would also keep a vigil on issues of drug abuse, rehabilitation, relief and assistance," he said.

Choudhary reviewed and finalized the arrangements for the establishment and launching of the centre at a high-level meeting today.

"It will be a coordination centre for issues related to police and health," he said.

A committee headed by the district magistrate will manage the functioning of the centre which will start functioning in September.
