To provide comprehensive IT solution

Aimed at bettering services for passengers, the Vadakara-based Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) has inked an agreement with the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to provide total information technology solutions to the State-owned transport sector.

ULCCS chairman Rameshan Paleri said that it would provide facilities such as electronic ticketing and passenger information systems, mobile application and real time booking for the KSRTC. This would be done on a Build, Operate ad Own (BOO) model. These facilities would be made to the public by September end. Thus, the KSRTC would also become the first transportation corporation with fully IT-enabled system in the country, Mr. Paleri said.

The electronic ticketing system would be executed through smart card and wallet payment modes. Likewise, through the Gobal Positioning System, a passenger can easily get details about the live status and the arrival time of a KSRTC bus at a depot. Passenger information system via display screens would be set up at 91 depots in the State.

He said passengers could use the service of a mobile App that would be launched for tracking the buses and real time booking for vacant seats. This App could be used in IoS and Android mobile phones for online ticket booking and getting information about special services.

As part of the project, the 24-hour control room of the KSRTC would track whether any bus had diverted routes, or was involved in speeding or had met with any accident. He said that KSRTC officials could also reschedule bus services based on a computerised trip schedule management that maps all routes. A call centre would handle complaints and suggestions by passengers.

A management information system would look into all aspects of financial proceedings and digitalisation of documents of the KSRTC, Mr. Paleri said.
