PMK youthwing leader Anbumani Ramadoss and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi President Thol. Thirumavalavan on Tuesday said that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami government should prove its majority in the floor of the house after 19 MLAs, who are supporters of AIADMK (Amma)’s deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran, submitted a letter withdrawing their support for the Chief Minister.
In a statement, Mr. Anbumani Ramadoss said that the Tamil Nadu government has lost majority with 19 MLAs withdrawing their support. “With MLAs Thameemun Ansari, Karunas and U. Thaniyarasu also expressing their support for Dhinakaran, the number of MLAs supporting the Edappadi K. Palaniswami government is down to 112, which is less than 117 required for a simple majority. He has lost the moral right to continue as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,” said Mr. Anbumani Ramadoss.
He further said that O. Panneerselvam has joined hands with Edappadi K. Palaniswami, whose government he termed as corrupt just a few days ago. “We do not know how many of those who support O. Paneerselvam actually support Edappadi K. Palaniswami. There are reports that former ministers such as Semmalai, Shanmuganathan and Madurai Saravanan are unhappy with the arrangement. It is only right that the Governor of Tamil Nadu instructs the Chief Minister to prove his majority,” said Mr. Anbumani.
‘BJP opportunistic’
VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan said that the merger of two factions of AIADMK was stage-managed by the ruling BJP.
“The RSS-BJP combine is trying to use the confusion prevailing in AIADMK to get a foothold in Tamil Nadu. It will only lead to growth of caste-based, communal hate politics.
“The secular parties should form an alliance as the BJP has completely taken over the AIADMK,” said Mr. Thirumavalavan.
He further said that Edappadi K. Palaniswami should prove majority in the floor of the house.
Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani also urged the Tamil Nadu governor to instruct Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to prove his majority in the floor of the house. “The Governor should call for a floor test in the Assembly and ask the Chief Minister to prove his majority in the Assembly. Without majority in the house and the support of people of Tamil Nadu, there is a feeling that the government is stagnant, which is not good for the growth of the State,” he said.
