The State government is leaving no stone unturned to prevent any communal incident in the coming weeks ahead of Ganesh Chaturti and Bakrid festivals.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who also holds the Home portfolio presently, held a meeting with top police personnel of the State on Monday, deliberating on measures to prevent any communal fall-out.
“In the backdrop of approaching polls and the coastal districts being communally sensitive over the last several months, we need to ensure that not even a single communal clash takes place. Even a small communal event is likely to be blown out of proportion by political parties to gain maximum benefit out of it. Officers need to ensure these are nipped in the bud,” Siddaramaiah is reported to have told the officers.
The Chief Minister is said to have instructed all district administrations to identify anti-social and communal elements, track their movements and even make preventive detentions if required.
He asked them to hold peace meetings between the two communities as part of preparations for the festivals too.
Sources said that he issued strict instructions that none of the senior officials should leave the headquarters. ADGP-rank officers in-charge of districts should also visit their assigned districts to oversee preparations.
