Yesterday, the solar eclipse of the century captured the attention of millions across North America, as the sun and the moon converged in a literally once in a lifetime fashion. As we were repeatedly warned, though, this phenomenon was something that needed to be viewed through special glasses, as staring at the eclipse with your naked eye would lead to severe retinal damage. Unfortunately, no one appeared to tell this to New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The Pro Bowl player posted a video on his Instagram in which he appears to be viewing the eclipse with no protection on his eyes.

Though Beckham does put on some eyewear at various points throughout the clip, it takes mere seconds for your eyes to be harmed by an unfettered viewing. So, understandably, Giants fans are worried that their star player's precious vision may be permanently damaged.

"Come on man. I need you for fantasy, you can't go blind," said one commenter. A number of others shared their reactions on Twitter.

Then, an even more troubling development occurred during the Giants' preseason match-up against the Cleveland Browns last night. Beckham suffered an ankle injury after a low helmet shot to his knee. Thankfully, x-rays on his injury came back negative, and Beckham tweeted later that night, seeming to indicate that he'll be okay.

So, is it coincidence that Beckham took this shot on the same day that he dared the eclipse to do its worst? Or did he incite the wrath of a sun god that has now cursed him to who knows what horrible fate? Hopefully, Beckham isn't waking up this morning with blurred vision to go with that aching ankle, both for his sake and that of Giants fans hoping for a better end to this upcoming season than last year. At this point, let's just keep our fingers crossed that he makes it to the first Sunday of the regular season.
