S. Pavithraa (12), from Tirupur, has returned with a silver medal in the under-12 category in the South-East Asia Open Karate Championship held a few days back at Jakarta in Indonesia.
Ms. Pavithraa, daughter of businessman Saseendran and homemaker Diana, competed against participants from Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal and Indonesia to finish second in the ‘kumite’ karate class event.
An elated Ms. Pavithraa said she had been practising karate since six years of age.
She presently holds ‘black belt’ in karate and finds time to practise for a few hours everyday.
Ms. Pavithraa’s family originally hails from Palakkad district in Kerala and settled in Tirupur.
