Noted poet Surjit Patar made Chairman of Punjab Kala Parishad

Noted poet Surjit Patar was today appointed as the Chairman of the Kala Parishad.

Tourism and Cultural Affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu personally handed over the appointment letter to the poet at his residence in Ludhiana, an official statement said.


Thanking the government, Patar said he would start a people's movement to propagate Punjabi culture, folk arts and literature worldwide.

He also said he would try to organise musical, poetry and singing contests throughout to connect the people with the state's great literary, cultural and artistic heritage.

Calling the poet a 'guiding light' for the future generation, especially the youth, Sidhu said that by accepting the offer, Patar has increased the stature of the Parishad.

He also said that serious endeavours would be made to associate one lakh art and culture lovers with the activities of the Parishad.
