Odisha Congress leader Subal Sahu passes away

Senior leader and three-time in Odisha, Subal Sahu, passed away today following a prolonged illness. He was 56.

Sahu, who was undergoing treatment for quite sometime, passed away at a private hospital here, family sources said.


A popular leader in the state known for his organising abilities, Sahu represented Bijepur Assembly constituency in Bargarh district.

He was elected to the Assembly in three consecutive elections held in 2004, 2009 and 2014. Sahu had defeated BJD strongman and former minister in the 2014 Assembly polls.

A sports enthusiast who had begun his career as a lawyer, Sahu was a prominent volleyball player and had taken part in major sports events in the 1980s.

Sahu's demise was condoled by Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Leader of Opposition in Assembly Narasingh Mishra, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Pradesh Committee president Prasad Harichandan and BJD leader and MP Baijayant Panda also condoled his death.
