An unidentified armed gang unleashed a murderous attack on a history-sheeter S. Veera Subbu (30) at Agraharam in Palanganatham here on Tuesday forenoon. The victim who sustained multiple cut injuries has been admitted at the Government Rajaji Hospital in a critical condition.

The police said that Subbu had gone to the cable television office at Agraharam at around 11.40 a.m. when the armed gang, suspected to have waited in a hideout for his arrival, rushed into the office and indiscriminately attacked him.

He sustained multiple cut injuries on his head and his left wrist was almost chopped off. The gang later left him in a pool of blood and fled the scene.

The cable TV operator, Raja, whom Subbu had gone to meet, alerted the Subramaniyapuram police.

As there was delay in arrival of ambulance, Subbu was transported in an auto-rickshaw. After providing first aid at a local private hospital, he was shifted to the GRH.

Police said that Subbu, who had a history-sheet at the Subramaniyapuram police since 2011, was accused in around 10 criminal cases, including two murder cases and a kidnap case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Sasimohan, inspected the scene of crime. Subbu had been working with Raja in cable TV operation and collection of subscription a few years ago till he got into criminal activities.

“It looks like Subbu had been harassing Raja demanding mamool for sometime,” Mr. Sasimohan said.

The Subramaniyapuram police are interrogating Raja to find out whether he had any role in the crime.
