Only to those who place an order today, says Collector

District Collector K. Surendra Mohan in another initiative to promote the State government idea — this time eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols — promises residents and devotees that the clay images will be delivered to their homes well before their worship time.

The clay images are available in varying sizes, a 9-inch one for puja at home would cost ₹ 12, and the five-foot larger idols will be stocked at the mandal office. There are 100 large idols, costing about ₹ 5000 each, that have been bought from CSR funds. The administration has already acquired some 10,000 small Ganeshas and they are ready for distribution.

Janahitha helpline

However, ‘the twist’ he says, is that the facility is available only for those who place an order before August 23 on 9494181920, the district’s Janahitha portal helpline.

Mr. Surendra Mohan who introduced ‘Green Fridays’ in the Telanganaku Haritha Haaram programme was recently given the T-Ex award for the district’s performance. “We may plan it, but people should own the idea. We want to eliminate the sentiment associated with plaster of paris,” he says.

Janahitha, a multi-mode grievance redressal system as a pilot project in the district, is already seeing good response. More than 1, 500 users have registered their grievances through the various modes since the program was launched last month, the Collector said.

Stocked up

The clay idols have been bought from various places in the State – Kodada, Hyderabad, Warangal and some from neighbouring Hanuman Junction.

Green Club, a voluntary organization is providing logistic support to the activity. It plans to despatch 500 idols to each of the 23 mandals, two days prior to the festival. The smaller idols will be distributed to villages from there. The organization has also made arrangement to distribute 1000 small idols to residents at the Alankar Centre in the town on the festival day.
