Barefoot Networks sponsors and participates in ACM SIGCOMM 2017 in Los Angeles showcasing new features like SRv6 and Layer 4 Load Balancing running on Barefoot Tofino
PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 22, 2017) - Barefoot Networks and Cisco will showcase IPv6 instantiation of Segment Routing using Barefoot's 6.5Tb/s Tofino™ switch, Cisco products, open source implementations on Linux, and FD.io VPP as part of Industrial Demos at the ACM SIGCOMM 2017 event, held August 21-25, 2017 in Los Angeles. Barefoot implemented SRv6 Network Programming functionality in a matter of days using P4 and ran it at line rate on its 6.5Tb/s Tofino switch.
As networks continue to evolve to meet growing demands for performance, latency and functionality, end-user programmability of the forwarding plane is a critical requirement for network switches. With P4 and Barefoot Tofino, new features and functionality are implemented in record time, allowing innovation in the network to happen at the speed of software. Barefoot has also collaborated with Facebook, USC and Yale to demonstrate stateful Layer 4 load balancing functionality running on its Tofino switch while it also performs the regular switching and routing functions.
Barefoot Networks is demonstrating these new use cases and has multiple papers accepted at ACM SIGCOMM 2017 that showcase the power of the programmable forwarding plane.
AWARDS:
ACM SIGCOMM Best Paper Award: The "Language-directed hardware design for network performance monitoring" paper that Barefoot co-authored is among the papers named as best of the conference.

About Barefoot Networks
Barefoot Networks launched in 2016 after two years of developing the most programmable and -- at 6.5Terabits/second -- the fastest switches ever built; twice as fast as the previous on record. By enabling organizations to define the network forwarding plane in software, Barefoot empowers network owners and their infrastructure partners to design, optimize, and innovate to meet their specific requirements and gain competitive advantage. In combining the P4 programming language with fast programmable switches, Barefoot has also created an ecosystem for compilers, tools, and P4 programs to make P4 accessible to anybody. Barefoot's founders -- Pat Bosshart, Martin Izzard, Dan Lenoski, Nick McKeown -- brought to the company more than 100 years of experience in building the fastest and biggest networking systems in the world. Backed by Google Inc., Goldman Sachs Principal Strategic Investments, Alibaba, Tencent, Hewlett Packard Ventures, Dell Technologies Capital and by premier venture capital firms Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Andreessen Horowitz, Barefoot Networks is headquartered in Silicon Valley.
