Eight students of NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion have come out with a rare creation of gigantic ‘collage portrait’ figuring renowned movie director S. Shankar to commemorate his birthday.

The art work has been described by the students as a tribute to the director’s immense passion for introducing innovative costume designs in each of his movies utilising the services of popular costume designers like Manish Malhotra and Neeta Lulla.

“We were inspired by the impeccable dressing styles of actors in Mr. Shankar’s movies, which often became trends of the youth later. Hence, we thought of his portrait”, L. Lavanya, one of the collage creators, told The Hindu.

The students chose August 17, the birth date of Mr. Shankar, to start the work.

“It took three days for us to complete the 20 feet X 20 feet art work using different types of papers, rexine and acrylic inks”, said B. Jeevitha, another team member.

Of the eight students, only N. Padmanabhan was an undergraduate student studying Garment Designing and Production course.

The others involved in the project, L. Lavanya, Ajith Kumar, B. Jeevitha, G. Haripriya, A. Sneha, K. Anu and A. Aswini, were pursuing post-graduate courses in Apparel Fashion Design.
