The Governing Council members of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society (HKES) landed in legal trouble after a private complaint was filed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court in Kalaburagi against them for singing the National Anthem incorrectly during the annual general body meeting of the society on March 27, 2017. The petition was filed against 16 members, including president of HKE Society Basavaraj Bhimalli.

Advocate Satish Allolli, who filed the petition, addressing presspersons in Kalaburagi on Sunday, displayed the video footage on how exactly the members were at fault in singing the National Anthem. He said that the members stopped singing the National Anthem midway when they forgot the lines, and then started again from the first line.

The footage has also captured a few members leaving the stage before the Anthem ended. The JFMC Court has, in its order, directed the Station Bazaar Police to register the case under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971 for further investigation and submit a report on September 27.
