He was allegedly beaten up by ‘caste’ Hindus for ‘stalking’ a girl

An 18-year-old Dalit youth allegedly committed suicide by hanging after “caste” Hindus allegedly beat him up for reportedly resorting to “eve teasing” at Korisapadu, near Medermetla in Prakasam district, on Sunday.

The girl’s father reportedly whisked Y. Venu who, along with another youth, was allegedly stalking his daughter, on August 16, Addanki circle inspector Hyma Rao said. The girl’s father, along with his followers, tied the youth to a tree and allegedly beat him black and blue. He was allowed to go after summoning his father and giving a stern warning “not to disturb the girl”.

Unable to bear the insult, the Dalit youth on Sunday allegedly ended his life with the help of a rope used for making cots. Tense situation prevailed in and around Korisapadu following the incident.

Case registered

Registering a case under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and IPC sections for kidnap, wrongful confinement and criminal assault, Darsi Deputy Superintendent of Police V.S. Ram Babu began a probe. The body of the youth was shifted to the Addanki Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Dalit Hakkula Parirakshana Samiti district president Neelam Nagendra Rao took strong objection to the “caste” Hindus taking law into their own hands and allegedly torturing the youth on the pretext of eve-teasing. He demanded the immediate arrest of all those responsible for the suicide and compensation to the youth’s family.
