Stalin backs strike call given by government employees, criticises police action against protesters

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Sunday blamed the ruling AIADMK government for not honouring the demands of the government employees and warned that the opposition party would join hands with the latter to bring down the government.

In a statement, he charged that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami is not capable of handling the proposed government employees’ protest through talks, and hence, sending him home is the right option.

“The DMK will join hands with government employees and bring down the government in a democratic way and focus its efforts towards saving the interest of the government employees and people of Tamil Nadu,” he said. Mr. Stalin added that holding talks with the Joint Action Council of Teachers Organisations-Government Employees Organisations (JACTO-GEO) and honouring the reasonable demands of the government employees is the duty of a responsible government. However, it can’t be expected from the current government.

He also slammed the police action against government employees during a recent protest, and criticised Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan for warning employees planning to strike on August 22 that they won’t get their salary and that temporary staff would be suspended.
