People take holy dip in Ganga on Somvati Amavasya

Lakhs of devotees converged on the banks of Ganga here today to take holy dip in the river on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya.

Devotees began to throng the Ganga 'ghats' (banks) including Har Ki Pauri since early morning to take the ritual bath in the river and continued to turn up in huge numbers throughout the day, Haridwar SSP Krishna Kumar V K said.


They also performed 'puja' (offered prayers) in the temples spread all over the city including Chandi Devi, Mansa Devi Nileshwar Mahadev, Dakshewar Mahadev, Bilwakeshwar Mahadev temples, he said.
