The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national leadership is likely to ease the disciplinary action initiated by the State unit against secretary V.V. Rajesh and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) general secretary Praful Krishna for their alleged anti-party activities.
Party sources told The Hindu here that the punitive action may not be scrapped at one go, but eased slowly to assuage the hurt of a prominent section that is riled over the decision.
Prior to president Amit Shah’s State tour scheduled in September, both leaders may be told to actively participate in party programmes and thus placate a section that had challenged the State leadership in the wake of the action.
While State president Kummanam Rajasekharan claimed that the decision to relieve both leaders of their organisational responsibilities was taken in consultation with the national leadership, those privy to the developments say that no such consultations have been made and it was decided by the State leaders using their residual powers.
The national leadership is in no mood to embarrass the State president by immediately revoking the action as it may be deemed as a severe setback to him and the party machinery as a whole.
In this context, an informal understanding is reported to have been made to gradually integrate the two leaders into the party fold without causing much injury to two factions that remain deeply divided over the disciplinary action. It could be deemed as a vindication of stance for the State president and his immediate camp followers and also a victory for those who are upset by the decision, sources said.
This is the only option left before the national leadership that is annoyed over the alleged inaction and acrimony in the State unit. Since a lot of preparations have to be made before Mr.Shah’s much touted visit to the State to campaign against the CPI(M), the national leadership can ill afford to antagonise a section of workers and leaders who had turned dormant of late.
The medical college bribery scam and a series of allegations that have come up against the State leaders have already stolen the sheen of Mr.Shah’s campaign and a series of programmes planned in its run up have all gone awry.
Mr.Shah is expected to start his tour from Pilathara in Kannur and then head the campaign focussing on the alleged CPI(M) violence against Sangh Parivar activists. The BJP would have to revive its organisational machinery soon for executing the campaign or face the wrath of the leadership. Hence, the State leadership would oblige to the proposal, sources said.
