State government will complete its full term: Deve Gowda

JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda has said that the Congress government in the State would complete its full five-year term as it was not facing any serious charges of corruption.

“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has given a government with no severe charges of corruption. Therefore, there is no reason for early polls,” he told presspersons here on Sunday.

Mr. Gowda also did not give much importance to the BJP launching a State-wide protest against the government demanding the Chief Minister’s resignation.

Mr. Gowda called the decision to stop financial aid to educational institutions run by RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat as unfortunate.

“Even if the schools are being run by an RSS man, students of various communities study there. Therefore, stopping financial aid is a wrong decision,” he said. Mr. Gowda, however, made it clear that he does not support Mr. Bhat calling him a man who creates problems in society.

“Mr. Siddaramaiah might have given good governance, but he has completely failed in taking tough action against persons like Mr. Bhat. When H.D. Kumaraswamy was the Chief Minister he had ensured that hate-spewing people had remained silent,” he said.

About Anti-Corruption Bureau filing cases of illegal denotification of land against BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa which the BJP called a political vendetta, Mr. Gowda said he was against the term political vendetta. He said that in a democracy, people would decide the action of the government — whether it was political vendetta or a genuine case.

On the decision of Mr. Yeddyurappa consuming food in the houses of Dalits, Mr. Gowda said that such “populist tactics” would not help the party in winning over the hearts of Dalits. “You can’t do such acts and think of winning the confidence of the Dalits. They are educated and will understand your politics,” he said.
