Prajakta Sawant has been involved in a lone and bitter legal battle with the Badminton Association of India and chief coach P. Gopi Chand for last five years on being ‘continuously sidelined’ by the authorities despite having the international ranking to stake her claim in the National squad.
The 24-year-old from Mumbai made a point by entering the mixed doubles second round at the Worlds in Glasgow, partnering Yogendran Khrishnan of Malaysia, on Monday.
The pair, which defeated the Chinese Taipei’s team of Lu Ching Yao and Chiang Kai Hsin 21-15, 13-21, 21-18, will next face India’s N. Sikki Reddy and Pranav Chopra, both of whom have been Sawant’s partners.
