Compensation for Vamsadhara oustees

According to proposals doing the rounds, the government is being urged to modify the earlier package of compensation to the Vamsadhara project displaced and to give more compensation to villagers by increasing the compensation to the lands already acquired. Modification of benefits to families which do not have youth of employable age should also be conceded.

The proposal to increase the compensation offered by the government may also be hiked keeping in view the amount paid for the Bhogapuram lands acquired for building another Greenfield international airport.

The government must heed to the advice and agree to the proposals.

Bus drivers

In the wake of a series of bus accidents resulting in loss of lives, a few due to natural calamities but in the others, human error is clearly noticeable.

This can be minimised to a great extent by regulating the recruitment policy of drivers for buses.

In the erstwhile USSR, meritorious drivers were scrupulously identified and nominated as “excellent drivers”, evidently distinguishable from the run-of-the-mill type.

The Centre and the State governments have the onus to undertake such an exercise to select competent drivers to be deployed for driving school buses and to take pilgrims to holy places, negotiating hilly terrain in varying weather conditions.

Sensitise youth

The murder of a 20-year-old girl at T Nagarapalem in Bheemunipatnam Police station limits by her alleged lover is condemnable. The murder shook the conscience of society and it is time civil society pondered over the reason for increasing number of crimes of this nature. Youth have to be sensitised and must be weaned away from negative influences which are leading them astray.
