Huawei and partners to empower South African youths

Huawei, along with their channel partners, hosted a certification award ceremony, as well as interview sessions for the Huawei Authorised Information and Network Academy (HAINA) graduates from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) at the Huawei Innovation and Experience Centre in Sandton, Johannesburg.

The HAINA initiative is a global ICT technology education program and was jointly launched with TUT in April 2015. It was the first HAINA established in the Southern Africa region and aims to fill the shortage of skilled workers within the ICT landscape.

As Huawei’s channel partners, EOH, Mustek, Pinnacle, DataCentrix and Gjima, were also present at the ceremony, where sixteen HAINA-trained graduates from TUT students were presented HCNA-Router and Switch certificates. These students, who are a part of the first group to be certified from a Huawei-partnered university in Southern Africa, also had the opportunity to go through interviews with the goal of securing internships with the various companies in attendance and get the beginning of their careers off to the ideal start.

The initiative forms an integral part of Huawei’s strategy of building the Huawei Ecosystem Talent Alliance which aims to build a talent ecological chain consisting of students/public, network academies/HALPs, and partners/customers, with the aim of fostering a virtuous cycle of ICT knowledge and talent. The initative gives students in-house training centres, authorised external training centres, and joint education projects with more than 220 universities worldwide.

By working with universities to provide industry-specific, scenario-based training and skills that students really need, Huawei hopes to cultivate a better ICT talent eco-system for South Africa. We will continue to encourage students to participate in Huawei’s Career Certifications and look forward to incorporating these certifications into our customers’ ICT talent development systems,” says David Feng, Solutions Director of Huawei Enterprise Business Group for South Africa.

Five other universities in South Africa also form Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), the University of Johannesburg (UJ), the Durban University of Technology (DUT) and the Vaal University of Technology (VUT), as well as University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) also form a part of Huawei’s HAINA initiative.
