Health Minister K.K. Shylaja on Monday told the Assembly that she had never used her political life for personal gains. She was speaking after the Opposition UDF boycotted her presentation of the Kerala Medical Education (Regulation and Control of Admissions to Private Medical Educational Institutions) Bill, 2017.
Referring to the controversy over selections to the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and her alleged role in them, Ms. Shylaja said the interview was postponed so that more qualified persons could be selected for the job. Four who were selected were with the Child Welfare Council previously. Two persons had worked in the field of child rights for long. One is a nun.
The selection and the interview were done in a scientific manner.
She said she hoped that the court would take into cognizance all this.
Later, in the absence of the Opposition, the Assembly passed the Bill.
