Campaign for bypoll reaches its peak

It was a day of complaints and accusations as the campaign for the byelection to the Nandyal Assembly Constituency had reached its peak.

While Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asserted that he was not afraid of a political novice like Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Leader of the Opposition alleged there was no tangible development worth mentioning in the three-and-half-year “misrule” of Mr. Naidu

Mr. Naidu resented Mr. Jagan’s vitriolic remarks to “shoot and hang the Chief Minister” in Nandyal. He accused YSRCP candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy of grabbing the land of Dalits in Chabolu village, preventing the kin of a rape and murder victim from lodging a complaint and floating the Silpa Cooperative Society illegally.

Mr. Jagan said the election verdict should be against the corrupt government and the unkept promises of Mr. Naidu.

Meanwhile, the TDP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India against a vernacular daily and satellite channel, alleging that they were publishing and telecasting paid articles/news.

The YSRCP too lodged a complaint with the Election Commission urging it to initiate action against a television channel which put forth an election survey violating the EC’s orders barring surveys and opinion polls.
