The State government was awaiting reports from the District Collectors of Alappuzha and Kozhikode to take a final decision regarding the alleged encroachments and corruption with regard to the business activities of Transport Minister Thomas Chandy and V. P. Anwar, MLA, said Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Onam and Bakrid Fairs here on Sunday, Mr. Chandrasekharan said the government would not make any prejudgment on the issue but will approach it with an open mind. If there was anything illegal in the issues, the government would take action impartially, on the basis of the merit of the case, he added.
The government had sought preliminary reports on the alleged encroachment of Vembanad lake by Mr Chandy for private tourism purpose and that of ecologically sensitive land by Mr. Anwar in connection with a water theme park. It was based on these preliminary reports that the government had sought detailed reports from the concerned District Collectors, Mr. Chandrasekharan said.
The Minister said that there was no question of two opinions regarding encroachments in the State government. Any encroachment by anyone would be proceeded against, he said.
