Govt. failed to close even a single belt shop, he alleges

There is no tangible development worth mentioning in the three-and-half-year “misrule” of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, which smacked of corruption, alleged Leader of Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday.

During his road show on the 12th day in the Nandyal constituency, Mr. Jagan asserted in YSR Nagar in Nandyal that the election verdict should be against the corrupt government and unkept promises of Mr. Naidu.

Gold loans

Deviating from his pre-election promise to check liquor supply and close down the belt shops, Mr. Naidu vigorously promoted liquor sales and a stage had come wherein “liquor might be delivered at every doorstep”, he remarked. Liquor sales rose steeply month after month and the government had failed to close even a single belt shop in the State, he alleged.

The promise to waive gold loans taken from banks was not fulfilled and every family was virtually driven into a debt trap, Mr. Jagan alleged.

Recalling that his father and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy allocated funds generously for fees reimbursement, he said the engineering college fees had skyrocketed to nearly ₹1 lakh now, but the Naidu government was reimbursing a mere ₹35,000. Healthcare has taken a back seat and patients with kidney ailments going to the government hospitals for dialysis were being told to come after a year, he said.

The political system would not improve as long as those showering empty promises ruled the State, he said. He accused Mr. Naidu of failing to secure the SCS.

Mr. Jagan took selfies with youngsters in several areas and continued the road show despite being drenched in rain. He urged people to vote for righteousness and elect YSRC candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy.
