Kolkata Police Sergeant and guard assaulted in Ekbalpore

A Sergeant of Traffic Police and a guard were allegedly assaulted by a group of people when they tried to stop them from escaping after hitting a biker in south Kolkata's Ekbalpore area today.

Three persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in assaulting traffic sergeant Manish Pandey and head guard Gulzar, a senior officer of Traffic Police said.


The driver and his friends of a four-wheeler allegedly assaulted Pandey and Gulzar for stopping them from fleeing the spot after dashing into a biker on Kabi Mohammad Iqbal Road in Ekbalpur at 2 pm, the officer said.

The biker was injured after the four-wheeler hit him from behind in front of Solo Anna Masjid on Kabi Mohammad Iqbal Road, the officer said.

Pandey and Gulzar were also injured after they were allegedly attacked by the vehicle's driver and his friends, the officer said.

A probe has been started into the incident, he said.
