No inflows into irrigation projects

Incessant drizzle since Saturday morning bought much sought after relief to the farming community, who were worried over prevailing dry weather conditions and withering of their rainfed crops like maize and cotton, among others.

The Karimnagar district received an average of 8.8 mm rainfall on Saturday. The upland Chigurumamidi mandal received 18.6 mm, Gangadharna manda 14 mm, Thimmapur 11.8 mm, Shankarapatnam 9 mm rainfall.

Though, the rains had not bought many inflows into any irrigation projects, but it had considerably recharged the ground water table. The rains forced people to remain indoors.

Coal mining hit

Rains affected coal production at all four open cast projects of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SSCL) in the Ramagundam region on Saturday, according to reports from Peddapalli district.

The rains had inundated the OCPs forcing the authorities to flush out the rain water continuously and the coal production was hampered due to the inclement weather. It is estimated that production of about 25,000 metric tonnes of coal per day was affected following the rains.
