Rain brings cheer to farmers

Incessant rain throws out of gear life in urban areas

The rain that lashed the five districts of erstwhile Warangal brought cheer to farmers while in urban areas, people were put to inconvenience with the continued showers for the last two days.

The rivulets and tanks in rural parts, particularly in Agency areas of Bhupalpalli were overflowing. There were heavy inflows into Ramappa and Laknavaram tanks. Dayyalavagu stream near Muttapur village in Govindaraopet was overflowing and similarly the Ankannagudem vagu in Mulugu division was overflowing. Several villages in Mulugu division were cut off due to heavy rains and overflowing streams.

Vehicles stranded

On National Highway 163 near Pasra, vehicles were stranded for about two hours as the low level causeways were overflowing with rain waters.

At Mulugu mandal, a constable, Nageswar Rao, slipped into a steam near Panchotukupalli village while returning from Rayanigudem. However, he was rescued by the villagers within few minutes. Mulug ASP K. Dakshina Murthy said the constable was rescued and he was out of danger.

Above normal rains

The Bhupalpalli district witnessed 42 mm of rain against the average of 24 mm. The Warangal Urban District too witnessed good rain with 24 mm as against the 24.6 mm.

In Warangal city, low lying areas were submerged in rain water and main roads and drains were overflowing.

Though the districts witnessed good amount of rain for the last two days there was no loss of life or property.

The farmers were happy with rains as standing crops got much expected relief after prolonged dry spell.
