Thuneri block panchayat has become the first local body in the State to have ward-level Kudumbasree home shops in all the seven grama panchayats under it.
District Panchayat President Babu Parassery announced this at an event held at Kallachi in the district on Friday, which was attended by hundreds of Kudumbasree workers. Kudumbasree Mission coordinators said they had opened 116 home shop units in the Thuneri block to mark the achievement.
One more block panchayat too will be identified shortly to implement the community marketing project in the next phase, they added.
“There are 439 active home shops in Kozhikode district, and the network will be expanded to more villages soon,” said Kudumbasree Mission district coordinator P.C. Kavitha. She added that Kudumbasree was continuing with its efforts to make Kozhikode the first district in the State to have home shops in all its grama panchayat wards.
Thuneri block panchayat president C.H. Balakrishnan said all Kudumbasree-brand products manufactured by various self-help groups in the district would be made available through home shops.
