L-G, CM join the devotees in drawing the temple chariot

Thousands of devotees thronged Veerampattinam on Friday to offer prayers to the presiding deity of Sri Sengazhuneer Amman Temple and participate in the annual car festival.

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Ministers, and MLAs joined the devotees in pulling the temple car. The car went around the streets of Veerampattinam before reaching the temple.

Special services

Ms. Bedi and Mr. Narayanasamy later performed pujas separately. A festive atmosphere prevailed in the coastal village since early morning. The Puducherry Road Transport Corporation had arranged special services on the occasion. The temple authorities, organisations and many individuals organised “annadhanam” (mass feeding) for devotees.

Popularly called Veerampattinam Car Festival, it is held on the fifth Friday of Aadi month in Tamil calendar (July to August). A holiday had been declared for all government offices and educational institutions.

The police made tight security arrangements at the venue.
