Officials ignoring them at programmes, they complained

Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency members from across the four districts, which had constituted unified Adilabad, on Friday made an impassioned plea to the chair to instruct officials to maintain protocol at government programmes and functions.

They raised the issue of protocol at the ZP general body meeting saying officials did not extend protocol due to them for being public representatives. The matter was raised by ZPTC member from Dilawarpur in Nirmal district Merina, which received support from all ZPTC members present at the meeting.

Ms. Merina pointed out that the ZPTCs have been reduced to non-entities firstly as the local body has no funds for development and secondly because officials were treating them badly.

Cotton purchase

Among other topics which were debated related to purchase of cotton in the coming months. Nirmal District Marketing Officer informed the members that the government has made arrangements for the Cotton Corporation of India to purchase the crop at 24 centres in the districts of Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal in the event the price of cotton falls below the minimum support price. He said private buyers would also be present in the market when trading starts around Dasara.

Housing Minister A. Indrakaran Reddy asked officials to protect the saplings planted as part of Telanganaku Haritha Haaram. The success of the programme depended upon their protection, he observed.

The Minister also asked bankers to give consent letters to beneficiaries for schemes to be taken up under Social Welfare Department.

ZP Chairperson V. Shobha Rani, Adilabad MP G. Nagesh, MLAs A. Rekha Naik (Khanapur), Rathod Bapu Rao (Boath) G. Vittal Reddy (Mudhole) and collectors of Mancherial, Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad R.V. Karnan, Ilambarithi and M. Champalal attended the meeting.
