Our classical music is closely linked to Nature that ragas are classified according to time of the day and seasons. When sung at the prescribed time, ragas are said to convey the mood and have a positive impact on listeners. Though the raga-time link is not strictly followed today, there are festivals that celebrate this unique aspect of our music.
Udayswar@Prithvi is one such. A concert of morning ragas held every third Sunday of the month, it is organised by Pancham Nishad. Designed as an intimate baithak, the concert does not feature microphones and is an effort to showcase the voice at its natural best.
The concert series that has featured eminent musicians will have Arati Ankalikar Tikekar on August 20 (7.30 a.m.) at Prithvi Theatre.
Endowed with a rich resonant voice, Arati's performances are marked by an excellent command over both rhythm and melody. Initially trained by Late Pt. Vasantrao Kulkarni, Arati continued to hone her musical skills under the guidance of Vidushi Kishori Amonkar, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar and Pt. Dinkar Kaikini. Thus, her singing reflects a beautiful blend of the various gharanas she has inherited from her eminent gurus. Versatile, she sings classical as well as film songs with equal ease.
A recipient of the National Award for the Konkani film Anternaad and Maharashtra State Award, she has also received the best playback singer for Lavani in the film De Dhakka.
At Udayswar, Arati will be accompanied by Yati Bhagwat (Tabla) and Niranajan Lele (harmonium).
