The Madras High Court today directed Tamil Nadu police "to secure" a suspected woman Maoist who was allegedly picked up by Andhra Pradesh police in plain clothes from a train near Erode last month.
Additional Public Prosecutor V M R Rajendran submitted that the woman, Padma, was involved in several criminal cases and is absconding. He said that "neither the Tamil Nadu police or the Andhra Pradesh police arrested Padma."
A division bench comprising Justice A Selvam and Justice Pon Kalaiyarasan, while considering a habeas corpus petition filed by the woman's husband Vivek, ordered Superintendent of Police, Tamil Nadu Q Branch "to secure" her and posted the matter for further hearing to September 14.
Vivek in his HCP submitted that while Padma was returning after medical treatment at Ernakulam in July, she was "abducted by policemen in plain clothes at gun point".
