
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha came as a relief for Hindi film industry after many Bollywood movies tanked at the box office one after the other. The Akshay Kumar-Bhumi Pednekar starrer gave a reason to the movie goers to reach out to the theaters for a light hearted watch with a social message embedded in it aptly. The ticket counters finally saw some moolahs coming in and now the movie has crossed Rs 100 crores.
The movie turned a week old at the box office and it has not only done superb business, but has also become Akshay’s eighth film to enter the 100 crores club. The film collected Rs 4 crore on Friday which brought the total collection to Rs 100.05 crore. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh shared the total earnings of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. He wrote, “#ToiletEkPremKatha crosses ₹ 100 cr on Day 8… [Week 2] Fri 4 cr. Total: ₹ 100.05 cr. India biz. #TEPK.”
Also, Akshay Kumar has maximum number (8) of film in the 100 crore club after Salman Khan who has 11 to his name. Taran tweeted, “#ToiletEkPremKatha is Akshay Kumar’s 8th ₹ 100 cr grosser… The 2nd highest, after Salman Khan [11 ₹ 100 cr grossers]. India biz. #TEPK.”

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, stars Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar, Anupam Kher, Divyendu Sharma, Sudhir Pandey, Rajesh Sharma, Shubha Khote, Sachin Khedekar and Sana Khan. The film highlights the issue of open defecation in rural India.
Bollywood trade analysts also expect the Akshay Kumar film to sustain the good run in its second week at the box office. “#ToiletEkPremKatha is expected to dominate in Week 2, despite new film releases today… It’s a wave that won’t slow down so soon… #TEPK,” wrote Taran Adarsh on Twitter.
During a chat with indianexpress.com, trade analyst Girish Johar told that Toilet: Ek Prem Katha will be the film to beat this week. He also remarked that the Akshay film might affect the collection of the newly released Bareilly Ki Barfi starring Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao.
