He had raised concerns about his safety at Kakkanad district prison

The police shifted Sunil Kumar, aka ‘Pulsar’ Suni, key accused in the case in connection with the abduction and sexual assault on a female actor in Kochi, to the Viyyur Central Prison In Thrissur on Thursday following the direction of Angamaly Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.

The direction followed a request by Suni raising concerns about his safety inside the Kakkanad district prison where he is currently lodged. In his petition, Suni sought a transfer to the Aluva sub jail, which would enable him to give a statement at the court without any concerns.

Accepting the request, the court, however, granted his transfer to the Viyyur Central Prison instead.

The move comes even as counsel of Suni accused the State government and the police of stopping Suni from disclosing details of the conspiracy behind the case against him. Emerging out of the court building, Suni reiterated his earlier statement on the involvement of a ‘madam’ in the crime and added that more details on her would be disclosed after being shifted to the new prison.

The other day, the court here had extended the remand period of Suni till August 30.

Statements taken

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team on Thursday took the statements of actor Remya Nambeesan in connection with the case. It was while on her way to Ms. Nambeesan’s residence in Kochi that the actor had been abducted and assaulted.

Official sources said the interrogation focussed on the film personalities who had come to meet the actor after the incident and the alleged bids to influence her to divert the investigation, etc.
