Hemanth Nimbalkar took charge as the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Western Range, here on Wednesday from outgoing officer P. Harishekaran.
Mr. Nimbalkar told reporters that he would strive to provide all services of police that people need for their safety in the range covering Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts. He said those attempting to create trouble would be dealt with as per law. He has studied problems and issues concerning range after his transfer, he said.
Mr. Nimbalkar said he would discuss with Superintendents of Police of the districts and address issues as they arise. “I will adopt the line between proactive policing and reactive enforcement,” he said and added that care would be taken to ensure that life of the common man was in no way hindered.
The police would act as per law against those disturbing peace and indulging in illegal acts. “We will make sure that such persons become aware of the law of the land,” he said. On his transfer to the region at the time of unrest, Mr. Nimbalkar said changes are part and parcel of the profession.
Mr. Harishekaran, who was apparently moved out for his reported failure to contain unrest in part of Dakshina Kannada, ended his stint with breakthrough in Sharath's murder case.
