The shorts come in a variety of colors. There are loops for a belt. There are pockets for things that you're not afraid to lose. There are a bunch of holes that make you rethink the importance of breathable shorts. A pair will cost you 49 bucks (that's not a typo), and oh, yeah — everyone's going to be able to see your penis, so if you’re really going to get them, at least stock up on some good underwear first.
But where does the lace shorts trend even come from? “Who even knows,” says Megan Collins, founder and editorial director of the men's style site Style Girlfriend. “I blame the RompHim. Honestly, it feels like these launches are created simply to stir up controversy and make news. Men's fashion doesn't change all that much from one season to the next, so to launch a standalone product like lace shorts feels like its creators are being provocative for the sake of being provocative.”

Ultimately, the shorts are a gimmick — and it won't be the last, according to Collins.
“Items like the RompHim have had a similar flash-in-the-pan trend moment, but that's all it really feels like—a moment,” Collins says. “People will forget all about lace shorts by the time the next ridiculous supposed men's fashion line launches on Kickstarter, which, who even knows what that will be? Leather overalls? Feather bonnets? Fishing waders made of suede? Your guess is as good as mine.”

And just in case you needed another person to tell you: “No, I wouldn't advise men to wear these,” Collins says.
