Owned by Minister Thomas Chandy

Officials of the Alappuzha Municipality have started investigation into the charges of encroachment at a lakeside resort, owned by Transport Minister Thomas Chandy, here. They conducted searches at the resort on Wednesday.

The private road leading to the resort was alleged to have been built using public funds. There had been allegations that the resort had segregated stretches of Punnamada Lake to provide anchoring facility for houseboats coming to the facility, keeping fishermen at bay.

Meanwhile, certain important files having details of building permits of the resort are said to be missing. Municipal Chairman Thomas Joseph has asked officials to trace the files immediately.

Youth Congress workers entered a piece of land, said to be under the custody of the Minister at the Marthandam kayal fields, and destroyed a shed set up on the land, adjoining the paddy fields. The land had been protected constructing a bund along a canal that leads to the paddy fields.
