Unidentified men opened fire in the north-eastern part of the city today.

Police said two-three miscreants suddenly fired from improvised guns in ward no 58 under Pragati Maidan police station area.

The bullets missed the possible target, a local youth, and the miscreants escaped.

Incensed locals later blocked Basanti Highway for some time disrupting vehicular traffic to protest against the incident.

While locals said the firing was the fallout of rivalry between two building syndicates, police said the motive was yet to be ascertained.
