Several villages have adopted resolutions against the proposed petrochemical zone in Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts and opposed functioning of oil majors in Cauvery delta area, a farmers' leader spearheading the stir claimed here today.
The villages in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, and Pudukottai districts passed resolutions at their grama sabha meetings yesterday against the proposed zone, P R Pandiyan, co-ordinator of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association committee said in a release.
He said the villagers' response followed a campaign by farmers' outfits from August 7 to 14 in the hamlets, which had also demanded that oil majors move out of the Cauvery Delta area and declare it as a protected agro zone.
