New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has taken up several works as part of its green initiatives, according to its Chairman.
Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations at the New Mangalore Port on Tuesday, Suresh P Shirwadkar, Chairman (in-charge), said that the port has set up rooftop solar units in its administrative building, hospital building and guest house with a power generation capacity of 4 MW.
NMPT has illuminated the national highway adjoining the port with LED lights. Apart from this, NMPT has also provided a school in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district a solar power system.
Shirwadkar spoke about the the role played by NMPT in spearheading the export-import trade from Karnataka for the last 42 years.
Several new initiatives were introduced by NMPT to improve productivity, efficiency and safety of port operations, and to retain the ecological balance both on- and off-shore, he said. Along with improving the capacity, productivity and efficiency in handling cargo, NMPT is also fulfilling its corporate social responsibility commitments, he said.
