On I-Day, steps for ‘freedom from waste’

more-in

Haritha Keralam Mission, in association with local bodies, will launch a major initiative to make Kerala garbage-free. The “freedom from waste” declaration will be made by Ministers in all districts on August 15, after the Independence Day functions.

Groups of trained volunteers will make house visits and campaign on garbage processing and management for the next two days. Suchitwa Sangamam will be organised at ward-level. The results of the home-based surveys carried out by volunteers will be discussed at this meeting. Comprehensive and scientific projects are being planned for garbage processing and management at source. The approach will be to encourage garbage processing at source in houses, gated colonies, markets and industrial units as per Kerala Municipality Act Section 334 (a). However, community-level projects for garbage processing will also be evolved.

From November 1

Community participation will be ensured in the project from the grassroots level. Local bodies will be responsible for the implementation of the projects.

The implementation of the projects is expected to begin on November 1.
